Sonic Horizon's solo album, "World of Change," blends modern progressive elements with a healthy dose of nostalgia from the height of 80s metal. Tight rhythm guitars, agile bass lines, sailing guitar leads, and evocative synth combine to form a distinct take on the old-school magic that metal fans have come to miss from past decades. Inspirations such as Rush, Guns N Roses, Van Halen, Journey, and Faith No More fuse with more contemporary counterparts like Tool and Dream Theater, while still retaining their own unique signature. The resulting journey is a fresh stylistic viewpoint that still has the welcome familiarity of an old, misbehaving friend.
The album features instrumentalist and vocalist Jason Hamilton's diverse musical influences, ranging from classical, jazz, latin, funk, and hard rock. Much of the rock scene focuses on creating only low, heavy post-grunge riffs or speed-mashing leads, in contrast to the expressive guitar solos and full-scale rhythm parts typical of the prior decades. Yet, the two ends of the spectrum can be seen as more complementary than exclusive. The concept has been to combine the best musical elements of both, and then produce the songs using the dynamic mixing practices of the late 80s and early 90s, but with modern fullness and clarity.
Each track is based on the story of a real person. The album's overall message is centered on the human nature beneath life's challenges and the fight for dreams of the future. Similarly, audio passages ranging from gentle orchestras to crushing guitar riffs ultimately create equal opportunity for head banging and existential thoughtfulness alike.
